Persona is owned by Sega Sammy (Japan, TSE: 6460), which acquired the brand in 2013 from Index Corporation.[1][2][3] Before Sega Sammy, Persona was owned by Index Corporation to 2013.[2]
This ownership is reported in official statements but has not yet been matched to a regulatory filing.
Persona combines dungeon crawling with a school life simulation, and its fifth instalment brought a Japanese role-playing series that had been niche outside Japan to a large Western audience. Sega acquired its studio Atlus in 2013. Atlus also makes the Shin Megami Tensei series from which Persona originally span off, and both remain among Sega's most valuable Japanese properties.
Index Corporation transferred its businesses to Sega Sammy in November 2013, bringing with them the studio behind Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. In April 2014 Sega split the acquired operations, re-establishing the home video game software business under the ATLUS name and leaving the contents and solutions business as Index. Sega Sammy dates the transfer to November 2013 without giving a day.
