Grupo Modelo: brands it owns and its ownership tree
Grupo Modelo is a publicly listed company headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico that is tracked here as an owner of consumer businesses, and has 1 recorded transaction.[1]
Grupo Modelo brewed Corona, Modelo Especial, Pacífico and Negra Modelo and was the largest brewer in Mexico. AB InBev held a substantial minority stake for years before acquiring the rest of the company in June 2013, a deal it could only complete by divesting the United States rights to Constellation Brands.
To settle the Department of Justice lawsuit blocking AB InBev's acquisition of Grupo Modelo, AB InBev sold Constellation Brands the perpetual rights to Corona, Modelo Especial and Pacífico in the United States, together with the Piedras Negras brewery. This is why Corona has a different owner in the United States than everywhere else.
