prAna was founded in a California garage in 1992 making clothing for climbers and yoga practitioners, and was among the first apparel companies to commit to fair trade certification at scale. Columbia acquired it in 2014. Fair trade certification for apparel pays a premium directly to factory workers, and few clothing companies had adopted it at the time.
