The Botanist is a gin distilled on Islay using twenty-two botanicals foraged on the island alongside nine standard ones. It is made at the Bruichladdich distillery, which Rémy Cointreau acquired in 2012 for about £58 million. The foraging is done by hand each season, which limits how much can be produced in any year.
Remy Cointreau bought the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay, its first move into single malt Scotch and the start of a run of whisky acquisitions that continued with Domaine des Hautes Glaces and Westland in 2017. The Botanist gin came with it: the distillery makes it on the same site, in a repurposed Lomond still. Remy Cointreau has not published the price.
