Yahoo Mail is owned by Apollo (the United States, NYSE: APO), which acquired the brand on 1 September 2021.[1][2] Yahoo Mail was founded in 1997 in the United States and was independent until 2021.
Yahoo Mail launched in 1997 after Yahoo bought the webmail service Four11, and it remains one of the largest consumer email providers in the world. A breach disclosed in 2016 affected all three billion accounts, the largest ever recorded, and cut $350 million from the Verizon sale price.
Funds managed by Apollo Global Management acquired ninety per cent of Verizon Media, comprising Yahoo and AOL and their properties, in a deal valued at about $5 billion. Verizon retained the remaining ten per cent.
