Miller Lite is owned by Molson Coors (the United States, NYSE: TAP), which acquired the brand on 11 October 2016 from AB InBev.[1][2] Before Molson Coors, Miller Lite was owned by SABMiller from 1975 to 2016.[2]
Miller Lite created the American light beer category in 1975, using a formula developed by a biochemist and advertising built on former athletes arguing about whether it tasted great or was less filling. Molson Coors gained full ownership of the Miller brands in 2016 through the SABMiller divestiture.
Molson Coors bought SABMiller's 58% of the MillerCoors joint venture and the worldwide Miller brand portfolio, a divestiture required to let AB InBev complete its takeover of SABMiller.
