About Birds Eye (North America)

Birds Eye is named after Clarence Birdseye, who watched Inuit fishermen freeze fish in Arctic air and worked out that fast freezing preserved cell structure where slow freezing destroyed it. The brand launched frozen food commercially in 1930. Conagra acquired the North American business with Pinnacle Foods in 2018; the European business of the same name is a separate company entirely, owned by Nomad Foods.
