Gillette is owned by Procter & Gamble (the United States, NYSE: PG), which acquired the brand on 1 October 2005 from The Gillette Company.[1][2] Before Procter & Gamble, Gillette was owned by The Gillette Company from 1901 to 2005.[2]
Gillette was founded in Boston in 1901 by King C. Gillette, who reasoned that a razor with cheap disposable blades would sell better than an expensive permanent one, establishing a business model still named after him. Procter & Gamble acquired The Gillette Company in 2005 for about $57 billion.
Procter & Gamble acquired The Gillette Company in an all-stock deal, adding razors, Oral-B and Braun and making it the largest consumer goods company in the world at the time. Regulators required divestitures in electric toothbrushes and deodorants.
